My name is Winston and I’m sure happy to meet you. I am a doggy with a little more age and wisdom than those young pups. I have been described as the perfect dog and I’ve got to say, even with my apricot coat, it made me blush.
I am a sweet little guy who loves to follow my humans around to see what they might be doing and to spend time with them. I certainly like to roll around in the grass when they’re outside or on a blanket/carpet when they’re inside, it’s one of my favourite things to do and the humans always seem to smile when I do it. I am house-trained and like to be held and brushed, even though I’m not too much of a fan of being picked up/carried around.
I do not really like being in a crate, but I will go in and relax as long as the door stays open. I’m not destructive or chew on things so I’m pretty good when my humans are away. I sleep in my dog bed or with my human at night and love to cuddle right up for that warmth. I only eat small amounts a few times a day rather than one or two larger meals. My tummy can only hold so much. I’m not really interested in a lot of toys but I do like to play with my favourite squeaky toy after a good meal. I have not been around children very much so I’m not sure how I feel about them.
I do love to play with other dogs and have been a good boy with each one I’ve met so far. I do like dogs a little more my speed, which is medium. I also get along well with cats. I like to go for walks, and sit like a proper gentledog while getting my harness on, but once it’s time to go I get so excited that I can’t seem to walk in a straight line. A patient human can help me learn to walk nicely so that we can both enjoy our time outside. I also love to go for car rides no matter where you might be headed, but again, I get so excited that I tend to be all over the place so a good seatbelt would help me stay put and stay safe.
My foster family describes me as “a sweet soul, who will be loyal to you, give you attention, and love you if your treat him like your fur-baby. He is calm, quiet, loving, snuggly yet will take his space alone when he wants it.” I think that sums me up pretty well. I look forward to meeting you!
Medical note: Winston has been treated for heartworm disease and MUST stay on flea, tick and heartworm preventives year round for life in order to prevent any other problems down the line. He should remain symptom-free as long as his preventatives are given regularly each month. He was given Pro Heart 12 on June 26, 2021 (this medication protects from heartworm recurrence for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick preventative until May 2022 when each medication should be renewed for the next year in perpetuity. Winston has also been treated for liver failure and skin issues and should be monitored for any signs of recurring problems. Due to the past liver failure, he must not eat human food or poor quality dog food. Winston is booked for his Lepto booster vaccine on August 31, 2021 (covered by SCAR at our vet’s office).
All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
SCAR does not have the resources to adopt animals to the United States and we can only adopt within a 200 km radius of Windsor, Ontario. Please do not apply if you do not live in Ontario, within 200 kms of Windsor.
