Hello, my name is Wheat Thin; you humans sure have wild imaginations when naming us. I’d love to snuggle with my human friends on a nice fluffy blanket, and I don’t mind at all if you eat those crackers I’m named after, as long as I can get my yummy dog food which I absolutely adore.

I’m very comfortable with other dogs and I really don’t care if they are big or small. I love to wrestle with them – don’t worry, it’s totally friendly. We can also play the chasing game if wrestling doesn’t sound like fun, then when we’re all played out, a nice snuggle suits me just fine. I don’t know how I will do with cats as I haven’t had a chance to interact with a feline friend yet. True to my breed, I do like to chase small animals, so I might pull on the leash to chase a squirrel down the road from time to time, but for the most part, I’m pretty easy-going on walks.

I do take some time to get comfortable with people that I don’t know, but hey, I can always be won over by a good treat. Once I get comfy, you can easily pet or play with me. I don’t know how I will do with kids – again no chance to interact with them yet. I only ask that people are gentle on my back end/hip area, and when you are taking me to a groomer, tell them I don’t like to be touched on my back left paw. Also, I tend to have some anxiety at the vet office during examinations or procedures, my rescuers suspect that I’ve had a bad experience, but a calm routine coupled with a dose of trazadone prior to my appointment keeps me stress-free and chill with the staff while they do what they need to to keep me healthy.

Did I tell you about all my good habits – I do my business outside (aka house trained). I am fine with the crate (no longer than an hour though), but you can leave me without one when you leave for 4-5 hours at a stretch and I promise to not destroy anything in the house. You can take me with you if you like car rides as much as I do. I know my basic commands – Sit, Stay, Come when called, and I love to shake my paw like a true gentleman.

I really hope to find my fur-ever home soon as I have lots of love to give. I would love a family to take me for nice walks to smell all the smells and enjoy lots of exercise.  I might be a bit of a blanket hog, but I’d be happy to share with you.  If you think you’ve got room for this little crackerjack, apply to adopt me today!

Medical Note: Wheat Thin was given Pro Heart 12 on September 27, 2022 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention until August 2023. For September 2023, he will require a new prescription of Nexguard and Heartguard or Advantage Multi for year-round ongoing preventative treatment.
