SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE WINDSOR-ESSEX IS LOOKING FOR QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS TO FILL THESE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Thank you for your interest in working with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex (SCAR). Please note that training will be provided for all positions. All applicants selected must provide a recent (within one year) police clearance at their own expense prior to starting any duties as well as signing a non-disclosure agreement with SCAR. Applicants must commit to a minimum of 4 months in these positions.
POSITION #2020-01: ADOPTION COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTEER (POSITIONS NOW FILLED)
Duties include:
- Liaise with Intake Coordinator and Adoption Coordinator Volunteers
- Send email communications to adoption applicants
- Coordinate and complete reference checks for adoption applicants
- Communicate with Adoption Home Visit and Adoption Completion Volunteers
- Send acceptance and denial letters to adoption applicants
Position requirements:
- Good communication skills and tact
- Confidence in e-mail and phone communications
- Literacy skills
- General computer skills (using email, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Good decision-making abilities
POSITION #2020-02: ADOPTION HOME VISIT AND ADOPTION COMPLETION VOLUNTEER (2 POSITIONS)
Duties include:
- Coordinate and complete home visit inspections for adoption applicants
- Communicate with Adoption Communications Volunteers
- Coordinate and complete meet and greets for approved applicants (includes liaising with Foster Coordinator Volunteer)
- Coordinate and complete adoptions for approved applicants (includes liaising with Foster Coordinator Volunteer)
Position requirements:
- Good communication skills and tact
- Confidence in e-mail and phone communications
- Literacy skills
- General computer skills (using email, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Good decision-making abilities
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
POSITION #2020-03: INTAKE AND TRANSPORT ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER (1 POSITION)
Duties include:
- Liaise with Intake and Transport Coordinator Volunteer
- Liaise with shelters to secure animal intake
- Process owner surrender applications (includes communications and arranging transport)
- Coordinate veterinary care at location of intake and with Rescue vet in Windsor area
- Coordinate transport of animals from intake location to Windsor area (includes cross-border pick-ups)
- Coordinate and liaise with site fosters and/or boarding facilities
- Liaise with Foster Coordinator Volunteer to secure foster homes in Windsor area
- Coordinate paperwork required for all intake animals
- Coordinate initial supplies for foster families at time of intake
Position requirements:

- Literacy skills
- General computer skills (using email, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Good decision-making abilities
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
- Valid passport and ability to cross the Canada-US border
POSITION #2020-04: DOG ADOPTIONS ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER (1 POSITION)
Duties include:
- Receive and review adoption applications
- Ongoing knowledge of animal biographies and home requirements
- Liaise with Adoption Communications Volunteers to determine next steps for application processing (includes devising detailed follow-up questions and/or assigning appropriate choice of animal(s) for adoption)
- Coordinate completion of animal biographies for posting online (includes liaising with Foster Coordinator Volunteer)
- Provide back-up services to Adoption Home Visit and Adoption Completion Volunteers (see Job Ad #2020-02 for details) as needed
