Hi, my name is Umber. I may look big on the outside, but on the inside, I am a shy little doggie. I was mistreated as a breeder dog in my previous life and can be slow to trusting new humans until I know I am safe with them.
Once I get to know you, I am a playful and loving dog. I love my foster sibling and definitely need to have a doggie sibling in my forever home. We play all day long but when we’re done, I also like to have a nice nap on my bed. I can even be a little mischievous and will steal a shoe or slipper every now and again, but I never chew on them.
I am content in my crate for a few hours if needed, but I am a good girl when left alone as long as I have my foster sibling by my side. I like to snuggle with my foster sibling, but also with my trusted humans. I am mostly house-trained but have had very few accidents in the house if my humans aren’t watching for my signals. I’m sure I could easily learn to use bells or a special ringing device if my new family showed me how to tell them I need to go outside. I still pull a little bit on our walks, but some positive reinforcement training could help me to walk like a good girl.
I have learned to sit and am learning some other neat things. I love to go for car rides and would do very well with a family that likes to go for lots of walks and hang out in the backyard. I am looking for that special family that will have patience with me as I learn to trust them. The reward of a loving dog is always worth the wait!
Medical note: Umber has been treated for heartworm disease and MUST stay on flea, tick and heartworm preventives year round for life in order to prevent any other problems down the line. She should remain symptom-free as long as her preventatives are given regularly each month. Umber requires U/I food as she was treated for bladder stones when she entered the rescue. This type of food keeps her healthy and happy.
All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
SCAR does not have the resources to adopt animals to the United States and we can only adopt within a 200 km radius of Windsor, Ontario. Please do not apply if you do not live in Ontario, within 200 kms of Windsor.
