Pup-sonality:
Hey, y’all, my name is Newt and I am a big, goofy fella ready to steal your heart, and possibly that treat in your hand. I am a super energetic young pup ready to explore the world.
I would love to have a playmate and high energy family to take me on long walks and do lots of fun things with. I can be a little wild walking on my leash, but some positive reinforcement training will help me learn to stay focused. I love to be around my family and like lots and lots of attention all day. Once my energy has run out, I am very happy to snuggle on the couch with you and get lots of lovin’s.
I am crate-trained and will stay in my crate while my family is away for short periods, and overnight, without issue. I am still working on my house-training, but that is more about my age than ability. My forever family will need to exercise some patience in helping me learn to say when I need to go out.
I am very good for car rides and behave very well at the vet’s office. My foster home has cats which don’t seem to like me too much, but that is mostly because I really want to play with them and they don’t seem to keen on the idea. I love to play with other dogs, a lot, and my new dog-sibling should be ready for all this puppy energy. I’ll play tug of war and chase-me as much as anyone else is willing to play with me.
I was so emaciated when SCAR took me into their rescue that sometimes I forget that I will never go without food again. I tend to want to eat in a separate space from my foster siblings so that I don’t feel like the others will steal my food. I may get comfortable over time when it comes to resource guarding, but for now, separate eating areas is best to keep me feeling secure about my own food.
I am a very smart boy and know how to sit for a treat. They’re always worth it! Since I have some natural herding instincts, I may try to herd my humans with some nose boops, so I hope you like wet noses.
If you’re ready for this handsome, energetic, good boy, then apply to adopt me today!
Medical Note: Newt was given Pro Heart 12 on May 17, 2023 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention until April 2024. He is currently receiving Nexguard monthly. For May 2024, he will require a new prescription of Nexguard and Heartguard or Advantage Multi for year-round ongoing preventative treatment.
Donate towards Newt’s foster home and vet care!
All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
SCAR cannot adopt animals to the United States and we can only adopt within a 200 km radius of Windsor, Ontario. Please do not apply if you do not live in Ontario, within 200 kms of Windsor.
