Mabel here, I may look old and wise, but I’m really a puppy at heart. I’m looking for a family that is home most of the time, a retired set of humans would be perfect for me. My foster family describes me as well-behaved and affectionate, I just love to love.
While I enjoy playing with other dogs in my foster home, I do like to play with my toys and do my own thing. A good squeaky toy is my absolute favourite but I also like a good game of tug-of-war. I really like to hang out in the yard with my people and watch them do some yardwork or go off and smell some good smells on my own. I like to go for walks, but my nose does distract me often, so I could use some patient training to keep me moving along. I am house-trained but my hints that I need to go out can be subtle. I may just give my humans ‘the look’ or come over and put my paw on your arm if you’re not paying attention. If I’m left alone too long, my little bladder can’t always hold but I will go on a pee pad if needed.
I have not been around cats or children so I’m not sure how I feel about them. I like to sleep in bed with my humans and use my own little stairs to climb into bed each night. I promise I won’t take all the blankets. I can be quite vocal when I get really excited, but will generally calm down easily. I already know how to sit, stay, fetch, and come when called. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? I do like a good nap and snuggle on the couch, as long as there are enough pillows for the both of us. I like to give lots of happy kisses to show you how much I love being around you.
I am a sweet little girl eager to spend each day showing my family how much I love them. I am always happy to see you and can’t wait to see what each new day brings.
Medical note: Mabel was given Pro Heart 12 on July 26, 2021 (this medication protects from heartworm recurrence for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick preventative until June 2022 when each medication should be renewed for the next year in perpetuity. She has received a full dental service through the Rescue’s vet and her teeth are in great shape. Mabel has a sensitive tummy and should only be given appropriate dog food (never human food scraps). She is currently eating Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diet EN Gastroenteric Low Fat Dry Canine Formula.
All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
SCAR does not have the resources to adopt animals to the United States and we can only adopt within a 200 km radius of Windsor, Ontario. Please do not apply if you do not live in Ontario, within 200 kms of Windsor.
