Requirements:
-Felipe should be in a home with another dog, of similar size and compatible energy level
-If there are children in the home, they must be 10+ years old and respectful of a dog’s boundaries
-Felipe’s home must have a fully secured fenced yard (no apartments)
-Felipe’s adopters must complete a training program with a SCAR-approved trainer at the adopter’s expense
Pup-sonality:
Hey there, I am Felipe – I bet, you have already fallen in love with my chocolate colour, innocent face, and beautiful eyes. If not, let me endear you a bit more. I am very smart, attentive, and love to interact with my human friends all the time.
Now, you might say – smart, eh? Where is the proof? Try me. Tell me to “sit” or “fetch” – I can do these and more – if you don’t want me on your furniture, just point down with your hand or say “down” and voila, I follow your hand sign. I also understand when you say “inside” and “outside” – I love that outside place. I love puzzles, and durable toys but you may want to keep items such as charging cords away from me as I am fond of chewing.
I am still working on my house-training, but I will use pee pads if I just can’t hold it. Another thing that I am working on is crate-training, but I am content playing with toys in a gated area while you are away from home. I don’t mind taking a bath every now and then but prefer not getting wet.
Other things about me – I like to take things slow on my walks. I take my time to sniff around and experience new smells. So, please don’t rush – not a big fan of fast structured walks. Go slow when taking me to a vet – I’ll do ok but I’m not a big fan. I do like to be held so some nice, positive cuddling can get me through most situations.
The rest of the time, I like to go fast, in fact, I’m known as the “Jumping Bean” as I love to jump high in the air to greet new people or just to see what’s going on up there. I do tend to get under-foot a lot so I would not be a good fit with someone who could easily trip over me. I’m pretty energetic and mostly prefer to play with small, young dogs who can keep up with me. I probably would not do well in a home with cats or small animals as I am likely too much for them to handle.

Medical Note: Felipe was given Pro Heart 12 on November 17, 2022 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention until October 2023. He is currently receiving Nexguard on the 16th of each month. For November 2023, he will require a new prescription of Nexguard and Heartguard or Advantage Multi for year-round ongoing preventative treatment.

All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
SCAR cannot adopt animals to the United States and we can only adopt within a 200 km radius of Windsor, Ontario. Please do not apply if you do not live in Ontario, within 200 kms of Windsor.
