A special note about Cherry:
Cherry has not had the greatest start in life.  When she first arrived at SCAR, she was very shut-down and scared (she had signs of being abused by humans).  In being socialized with other dogs, it is clear that Cherry would benefit from another dog in the home that she can learn from when it comes to trusting people and learning how to exist in a loving environment.

Pup-sonality:
I’m Cherry and a sweet one at that! I might be a little shy at first, but once I get to know you, I know we will be fast friends.

I love to play fetch and go for walks, and I know lots of commands like sit and stay, especially when I know there’s a treat coming after. I rarely bark and am a very good girl in my crate. I am still working on this going outside thing, so my forever family will have to help me get the hang of it. I’m sure I’ll get there soon.

I will follow you around throughout your day to keep you company and I sure enjoy a good snuggle. I sometimes roll onto my back to let you know you’re in charge, but a nice belly rub fixes me right up. I haven’t really interacted with kids or cats, but when I see cats on my walks, I don’t really react to them so I might do ok in a home with a cat. I like dogs my own size and energy level, if there’s too much excitement, I can get a little scared and want to hide out somewhere until the scene calms down.

I am still a bit of a young pup and I show that sometimes by nicking a sock or slipper, so keeping an eye on me is a good idea. Lots of exercise and activities throughout the day should keep me in good spirits, and lots of great toys will keep me busy.

I’m just ready to be your little love-bug and I can’t wait to have a snuggle with you!

Medical Note: Cherry had double cherry-eye surgery and is now doing great. Sometimes if she is over-excited, the corner of her eye(s) may get a little red and should be calmed if that happens but should otherwise not experience any issues.

Cherry was given Pro Heart 12 on January 18, 2023 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention until December 2023. She is currently receiving Nexguard monthly. For January 2024, she will require a new prescription of Nexguard and Heartguard or Advantage Multi for year-round ongoing preventative treatment.
