Who’s a handsome salt ‘n’ pepper boy? I am! Bear’s the name and loving you’s the game. I am a schnauzer mix and fairly true to that breed in that I am very social, very smart, and a little bit protective of my family. Schnauzers are often described as the dog with a human brain, so I definitely need mental stimulation in my day to keep me contented.

I am house-trained and not destructive in my home. I love to go for walks but need some gentle correction to stay on course. I will sit and wait at corners when given the command to do so. I am a pretty good listener after all. I love to go for car rides, even if we’re going to the vet, but mostly because I want to make friends with as many humans and dogs as I see. I have not been around cats while in my foster home but since schnauzers are a hunting breed, I don’t think I’d really get along with a cat in my house. They’d have to be a pretty confident cat to handle the likes of me.

While I can be protective of my family when someone new comes to our door, once introduced to a new friend, I’m ready to play and show them my fun side. I absolutely love to play tug of war with people and dogs, it’s my absolute favourite, but I do enjoy other toys and types of play, but I usually play a little rough and like to have my mouth open, so my new family should be ready for that kind of playing. I can sit and come when called, and could learn so much more if we work together.

I love to be picked up and held, I enjoy being groomed by my family or a new friend. I will follow you around and see if there’s anything interesting going on. Like I said, I do enjoy mental stimulation throughout the day and I do find these humans so very interesting. I am a perfect companion for an active family that likes to explore this big wide world. I would love to go camping or hiking, as long as I am secure because who knows where my nose might take me. I might even do well with some agility training or active sport that we could do together.

If you’re looking for the kind of dog that could be a real partner in your life, I think we could make this work. I love being with my humans and getting lots of attention and activity. I want to be the best friend you ever had and I hope you will be mine.

Love, Bear

Medical Note: Bear was given Pro Heart 12 on December 21, 2021 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention until November 2022.
